Sunbird Trust distributes solar lamps

Imphal, March 18 2023:
As part of its CSR programme, Schneider Electric India foundation in association with Sunbird Trust, a North East India-based NGO, has commenced the second phase of distributing portable solar lamps to people living in remote hilly villages of Manipur on Saturday.
Previously, Sunbird Trust, in the first phase of the programme conducted in December last, distributed 250 portable solar lamps to over 1,200 people from under resourced households in the villages of Kamjong, Tamen-glong and Senapati districts.
The communities covered under this phase included those in living in Chadong village of Kamjong district, Aben village in Tamenglong district and Oinam Laila in Senapati district.
Widows in Tumuyon Khu-llen village and needy staff of various schools were also amongst those who were benefited.
For its second phase, which will be carried out till the end of the current month, around 950 solar lamps will be distributed to additional 12 villages, benefitting over 5,000 individuals.
These will include residents of Muirei in Ukhrul district, Sinam Kom in Kangpokpi district, Waphong in Senapati district, Pungmon, Ijeirong, Bakwa, Puichi, Ha-ochong, Kabuikhullen (Part 1,2 ana 3) and Khundong in Noney district.
In this regard, Sunbird Trust founder and CEO Col (Retd) Christopher Rego mentioned that many parts of North East India were literally "out of sight and out of mind" and expressed his gratitude to Schneider Electric India Foundation for their outreach to this part of the country.
If at all the lamps could be transported to so many far flung locations, he credited and complimented the Army and Assam Rifles for their immense logistical support, a release conveyed.
