UZO assembly backs war on drugs campaign

United Zou Organisation, General Headquarters, the apex body of Zou Tribe, has declared a 'War on Drugs' during its 67th annual assembly held at Behiang on March 16 and 17 .
In a release, UZO general secretary Chinkhenpau informed that the annual assembly was attended by Singhat ML\ Chin-lunthang, Zou chiefs, delegates and its constituent bodies such as Zou Youth Organisation, Zou Sangnaupang Pawlpi, Zou Zum-pi, Zou Literature Society, Zou Script Development Society, Zou Artiste Union, Zou Women Human Rights Organisation and Zou Gal Memorial Shield Committee.
The 67th Annual Assembly unanimously resolved to declare a War on Drugs particularly against 'poppy cultivation' in all Zou dominated areas and work for preserving forest and wildlife.
It further resolved that all chiefs must prohibit poppy plantations in their respective areas in support of the state government's farsighted steps to save the environment and the future generation of mankind, the secretary said.
In tune with the resolution adopted, the apex organisation and its constituent bodies including Zou chiefs would be organising seminars /awareness programmes at the level of block, branch, unit, Church and villages soon.
