7 vehicles damaged during KSDC bandh

Imphal, July 08 2013:
On the first day of the bandh today, at least seven vehicles were reportedly damaged by supporters of the 48-hour bandh being called by Kuki Statehood Demand Committee (KSDC) in Kuki inhibited areas in protest against the failure of the Union Home Ministry to hold peace talks with Kuki militants.
Bandh supporters destroyed five two wheelers, one Tata Magic and a van of the Post Office at Tuibong area of Churachandpur district today.
According to reports reaching Hueiyen Lanpao, the bandh was not much effective in Churachandpur town.
All shops and establishment were opened and people went for their respective works as usual.
However, the bandh was total in Tuibong where all shops and establishment were closed down for the day.
It was also effective in Kangpokpi area where the attendance of staffs in government offices was reportedly thin and students abstained from attending to schools.
However, many shops were found open in Sapermeina and Motbung during the bandh.
Bandh supporters also came out and blocked the roads along with burning of tyres and piling woods along Imphal Ukhrul road.
Around 20 vehicles including passenger buses, Winger, Tata Sumo and other goods laden trucks which were stranded at Senapati bazaar were later escorted safely till Imphal by security personnel.
