Tengnoupal, July 08 2013:
Normal life remained affected in Kuki inhabited areas of Chandel District on the first day of two-day long bandh being called by Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC).
During the bandh, no vehicles were seen plying along the road section of National Highway 2 (Imphal Moreh road) as the bandh supporters blocked the road by piling of woods and boulders.
At Tengnoupal, the bandh was enforced by members of KSDC Tengnoupal Block and other supporters including women , who came out in the street holding banner and raised slogans like "We demand Kuki State".
While briefing the media persons at Tengnoupal, Lhangsum T.Mate, Secretary KSDC Tengnoupal Block said that as a citizen of India it is our right to demand Kuki State.
The Kuki people and their rights have been suppressed by the Indian Government since independence.
Even today, the State and Central Government were not sincere enough for holding political dialogue with the Kuki UG groups even after signing of Suspension of Operation (SoO) for more than 8 years.
So, the Governments both in the State and at the Centre should initiate political dialogue with the Kuki UG groups considering the aspiration of the suppressed Kuki people.
