State records 522 new cases, 8 deaths; test rate dips

Imphal, August 13 2021:
The state on Friday reported eight fatalities and 522 new positive cases out of 4053 samples tested, registering a positivity rate of 12.88 per cent against 14.48 per cent recorded on Thursday.
Despite multiple efforts, health authority has not been able to bring down the positivity rate to single digit.
At the same time, there is no sign of ramping up the test capacity as daily test capacity remains low considering the high positivity rate.
The active caseload has come down to 6671 out of which 2473 (37.07 per cent) are in home isolation, 2061 (30.89 per cent) in CHICs, 1236 (18.53 per cent) in CCCs and 901 (13.51 per cent) in hospitals.
Among the hospitalised patients, 130 are admitted to ICU/HDU wards, 358 are on oxygen support and 69 on ventilator support.
At the same time, 46 patients are also on oxygen support in different CCCs.
As of Friday evening, 2302 beds are available in different CCCs and 204 beds including 66 ICU/HDU beds in different hospitals.
There is no updated information on district hospitals and CHCs.
However, up to Thursday evening, 259 beds (15 ICU/HDU) were available in district hospitals and CHCs.
So far, the state has recorded 77,829 positive cases and 1317 fatalities since the beginning of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
The current month saw an addition of 8730 new cases and 135 fatalities out of which 4340 new cases and 63 fatalities were added in the last seven days alone.
According to official reports, one of the new cases is a jawan of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and the remaining 521 cases (270 male & 251 female) are from among the general population.
Their samples were tested at RIMS (63), JNIMS (20), District Hospitals (286) and other testing centres (153) .
The positive cases from among the general population are from Imphal East (145), Imphal West (184), Thoubal (24), Bishnupur (70), Kakching (16), Ukhrul (19), Churachandpur (32), Chandel 11), Senapati (4), Tamenglong 13), Tengnoupal (1), Jiribam 4), Noney (3) and Kangpokpi 5) .
All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.
The State Level Covid-19 Deaths Audit Committee reported 8 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours but no age and gender information have been provided.
The district wise fatalities are Imphal West (1), Bishnupur (4), Kakching (1), Ukhrul (1) and Churachandpur (1).The cumulative number of deaths has reached 1691.Out of the eight victims one had no co-morbid condition and three had received first dose of Covid vaccine.
In the last 24 hours, 678 patients were discharged from home isolation (284), RIMS (19), JNIMS (5), CCCs (179) and CHICs (191) .
The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 1,07,229 (general population - 1,03,162 and CAPF personnel - 4,067).Number of recovered cases is 98,867 (general population - 94,851 and CAPF personnel - 4,016) and number of active cases is 6,671 (general population - 6,625 and CAPF personnel - 46) .
The recovery rate is 92.20 per cent.
In the last 24 hours, 1687 D-type and 388 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities.
Despite the government's vision to vaccinate cent per cent of the targeted population by next month, the vaccination progress is getting slower as only 6167 vaccine doses were administered on Thursday.
The cumulative number of vaccinated individuals has reached 11,63,774 out of which only 2,67,355 of them have got the second shot despite having 3,23,391 eligible people for getting the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, 16 new positive cases were detected out of 95 samples tested from Thursday 2 pm to Friday 2 pm in Kakching district.
One of the cases was detected at Jivan Hospital and 15 at government RAT sites.
One is from Thoubal district and the remaining are residents of Kakching district, according to DSO Kakching.
As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (36,081), Imphal East (24,029), Thoubal (8805), Churachandpur (9123), Kangpokpi (2506), Tamenglong (2930), Bishnupur (8122), Senapati (1952), Ukhrul (1932), Kakching (5878), Chandel (2082), Noney (935), Tengnoupal (1001), Jiribam (977), Kamjong (606) and Pherzawl(270).Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (566), Imphal East (399), Thoubal (153), Churachandpur (146), Kangpokpi (54), Tamenglong (12), Bishnupur (169), Senapati (6), Ukhrul (23), Kakching (104), Chandel (31), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (12), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (4) and Pherzawl (0).However, the figure does not match with data released by CMOs and DSOs of some districts.
The state health authority is not willing to provide district-specific case status despite repeated request from media.
Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 34,557 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 23,022 CPM.
Test rate has improved to 3,70,692 tests per million population against the national average of 3,50,853 TPM.
Case fatality rate stands at 1.58 per cent.
In the past 24 hours, 4053 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 12.88 per cent while the cumulative positivity rate rose to 9.32 per cent.
