MLA doubts competence of IMC Mayor, probe panel

Imphal, June 10 2022: Unsatisfied with IMC's clarification regarding GG Rongmei, Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan has invited caretaker mayor of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) and the committee which is investigating against GG Rongmei to come to his residence for knowing everything about money withdrawn by GG Rongmei without executing any work.

While alleging that IMC mayor and the IMC committee investigating against GG Rongmei are unable to bring out the truth about the latest scam in the corporation, MLA Joykisan invited both the mayor and members of the committee to come to his residence at 9am on Saturday and offered to tell everything about the scam.

Regarding siphoning of huge IMC fund without executing any work by GG Rongmei, IMC mayor and enquiry committee clarified that there is no work left for GG Rongmei to be executed and the only fault of GG Rongmei was his working as a contractor while being a corporator.

Terming the clarification as very unfortunate, Joykisan pointed out that IMC had earlier declined to reveal the real identity of contractor GG Rongmei but compelled to identify GG Rongmei as Ward No 1 corporator Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei only after TAKDO warned of intense agitation.

Addressing media persons at his Khoyathong residence on Friday, Joykisan said that GG Rongmei had withdrawn Rs 9,79,491 for construction of retaining wall of a non-existent pond at Majorkhul.

Apart from this, Rs 42 lakh was sanctioned for construction of roadside drain from Laipubam Sanjay to Aribam Prameshor Dukan in Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai but there is no drain at the area.

However, the IMC enquiry committee and mayor are unable to bring out the truth about these two projects, he said and asked both the IMC mayor and enquiry committee members to come to his residence to know everything about the money withdrawn by GG Rongmei without executing any work.

While offering to share number of works assigned to contractor GG Rongmei but never executed, Joykisan said that IMC's clarification by identifying only two projects executed by GG Rongmei cannot be acceptable.
