Sessions Court, Manipur East today framed charges against two accused in two different criminal cases.
In the first case, the Court framed charges against Nongthonbam Barun alias Baru (33) s/o N Achoubi of Urup Litan Makhong under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly raping a minor girl, who is his student.
Barun, who is currently lodged in Sajiwa Central jail, was produced before the Court under FIR number 24 (12) 2014 of Imphal East women police station under Section 376 (2) (f) (n) IPC and 4 POSCO Act 2012 .
However, during today's charge hearing, only charges under Section 6 of POCSO Act 2012 were framed against Barun by the Court.
The Court later fixed May 19 as the first date for the trial of the case.
Imphal East women police station had submitted a chargesheet against Barun about a month back.
The accused is the tuition teacher of the rape survivor.
After her younger brother told their parents about the incident, the girl was brought at JNIMS hospital on December 9 last year.
The girl had revealed to a team of Imphal East women police station, who were also present at the hospital following a complaint of her parents that she had been repeatedly raped by Barun.
Acting on this disclosure of the alleged rape survivor, the accused was arrested on December 11 last year.
In another case, the same Court framed charges against a 47-year-old man under 302 and 201 of IPC for allegedly murdering his own wife.
Accused husband Hijam Shanti s/o (L) H Nabakumar of Uchathon village, Jiribam, who is currently on bail, was produced before the Court under FIR number 33 (6) 2013 of Jiribam police station under Section 302 and 354 IPC.
During today's charge hearing, charges under Section 302 and 201 IPC were framed against Hijam Shanti for allegedly murdering his wife Hijam (o) Jina Devi.
The Court later fixed May 27 as the first date of hearing of the murder case.
The complainant of the case will depose before the Court on the day.
It may be mentioned that body of Hijam (o) Jina was recovered from her residential complex in June 2013.It is said that her husband Shanti allegedly hacked her to death the previous night.
Soon after the incident, Shanti was pulled up by the police and remanded to judicial custody for some days before he was freed on bail.
