Imphal, August 18 2014:
In connection with the incident of alleged rape of a 5-year old girl by one Angom Sanathoi, a 42-year old resident of ward no.9 of Thinungei Awang Maning Leikai in Bishnupur district on August 15 last, the JAC formed in connection with the incident and the family members of the victim have demanded the Government to punish the culprit with either life imprisonment or hanging till death in public.
At a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today, JAC secretary Loitongbam Kananbala said the crime committed by Angom Sanathoi (42), son of late Ibocha of Thinungei Awang Maning Leikai on the 5-year old girl is unpardonable.
On that day, the grandmother of the victim while going for feeding the pigs saw Sanathoi indulging in the heinous act, she narrated.
Kananbala retorted, 'If her grandmother was not there, what would happen to the life of the small girl', and said the victim might have been killed.
She urged the concerned authority to punish the culprit who is presently in Bishnupur Police custody with life imprisonment.
'If the guilty is released after a few years in jail, he would continue to indulge in such crimes on a number of other girls', the JAC secretary warned the government, and demanding that the culprit be hanged to death, if he is to be released after a few years.
Secretary of Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, Bishnupur Y.Maheshwari lamented that even though numerous crimes of rapes have been committed in the state, the Government has not given befitting punishments to the perpetrators.
'The culprits are often released after lodging in jails for a few years,' she asserted and explained that this attitude of the Government encourages the rape crimes in the society.
Meanwhile, a meeting held in connection with the incident reportedly decided to expel alleged rapist Angom Sanathoi for life from Thinungei, Ningthoukhong, Toupokpi and Bishnupur areas.
Anyone who gives shelter to the rapist would get the same punishment, the meeting resolved.
