Life sentence for murder convict

Maibam Manojkumar, Sessions Judge, Imphal West, sentenced convict Pheiroijam Boy, to rigorous imprisonment for life for murdering his aunt and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 as well on the convict.
The sentence was announced today after the sentence hearing before the Court against Pheiroijam Boy alias Rakeshroshan (49) s/o (L) Premkumar of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba, who was convicted by the Court yesterday for murdering his aunt identified as Kundarani with a kitchen knife on March 8, 2014, at around 1.30 pm.
The Court heard the submission of A Nilachandra, Additional PP and Advocate Th Picha, defense counsel of the convict.
During the hearing, the Additional PP submitted that the convict murdered his aunt by stabbing her with a kitchen knife while she was asleep.
Pointing Out the seriousness of the offence, the APP prayed for awarding life imprisonment to the convict with fine.
On the other hand, the defense counsel contended that the convict has no past criminal records and that he was not involved in any criminal activities inside the jail and as such prayed for awarding minimum sentence.
After hearing both parties, the Court sentenced the convict to rigorous imprisonment for life and also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.The Court also recommended Rs 5 lakh to be paid to one Ph Hemabati, a relative of the deceased who was staying with her at the time of the incident after returning/ separating from husband, as compensation.
