Imphal, July 12 2014 :
Several frontal Muslim organizations including AMMOCOC, UMMWDO, MDO and AMMSO today sought an apology from MLA of Wangjing Tentha constituency, Paonam Brojen for making provocative remarks while making obituary reference to ex-Minister Md Helauddin Khan during the first day session of the ongoing State Legislative Assembly.
Setting July 14 as the deadline, the organizations have also announced to boycott the MLA in case he fails to come up with an apology in time.
The Congress MLA allegedly remarked in the assembly saying, "I could not believe that such a person like Md Helaluddin Khan could come up from Meitei Pangal (Muslim) community" .
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here, Md Farid Khan, president of AMMSO said that the remark of the MLA has hurt sentiments of Muslim community in the State and demanded resignation of all Muslim Ministers and MLAs on moral ground.
He stated that Meitei Pangals have their valuable contribution in building and safeguarding the territorial integrity of the State and pointed out that the irresponsible remarks of the MLA came at a time when efforts are being put in to maintain peaceful co-existence amongst different communities in the State.
Md Abdul Quayum, organization secretary of AMMOCOC, who was also present at the press meet, informed that a memorandum will be submitted to Sonia Gandhi, president of AICC and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 13 to urge them to take up necessary action against the MLA.
He also disclosed that a team constituted by members of various Muslim organizations will be leaving for Delhi within the next few days to meet Central leaders in this regard.
