The final match of the Ist Sulam Cup Football Tournament played between Ningam Memorial Team and Kapaam Development Club at Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School playground here today ended abruptly on bitter note before the end of normal time.
A closing function of the tournament was held prior to the kicked off the final match with former Secretary General of CNPO BD Betha Anal attending as chief guest.
Betha extended a financial assistance of Rs 20000 to the organizing committee.
Both teams had qualified for the final from amongst 22 teams vying for the championship title of the tournament that began from June 24 .
Kapaam Development Club (KDC) had a good start by netting their first goal in the 6th minute and the second goal came in the 30th minute and led the match by 2-0 goal till the end of the first half.
Even though Nigam Memorial Team got several chances right from the beginning, most of the shots and deliveries went wide off the mark.
Their first goal came in the 70th minute and reduced the score margin to 2-1 .
It was during the last 6th minute of the match when Nigam Memorial Team got dissatisfied with the referees' decision of giving the third goal to KDC and they protested claiming it 'not a goal but Offside'.
But the assistant referee ignored it.
Subsequently, they submitted a written petition addressed to the match commissioner for a replay.
However, the petition was not acceptable to KDC.
This led to an argument and fans from different corners shouted, thus, disrupting the play for about 30 minutes.
When spectators started leaving the playground, the organizer had a hard time trying to settle the problem.
Unable to bring both the teams into negotiation, the organizers finally declared the match closed for the day without announcing the winner.
Later, talking to media, the President of the organizing committee informed that the organizer, Sulam Area Sporting Association would take its own course of action to declare the champion and prizes would be distributed to the winners after informing them.
He said that the organizer was compelled to take this decision so as to avoid any possible negative outcome.
