Sit-in stir of MSPP continues

As part of the ongoing protest launched by Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) demanding availing of 100 days work under MGNREGS to villagers, appointment of competent BDO in all the nine blocks, upgradation of RD & PR Department to a major department, increase of honorarium, implementation of three tier Panchayat system and several others; a sit-in-protest was staged by Panchayat representatives of Imphal West I and II Block at the office complex of DC Imphal West, Lamphelpat here on Friday.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, Th Saratchandra, Up Adhyaksha, Imphal West said that the Panchayat system in the State has been reeling under pitiable condition due to deprivation of its basic rights by the government and pointed out that Panchayats have been not able to work efficiently due to the interference of MLAs and other influential persons.
He further said that unlike other States, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in the State are yet to be empowered.
This is a sign of poor governance.
In solidarity of the demands made, Imphal East District Panchayat Parishad under the aegis of MSPP also staged a sit-in-protest at the office complex of DC Imphal East, Porompat yesterday.
