Alleging that wetland has been converted to patta land by violating the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014, Peoples' Rights Protection Committee (PRPC) Keirao Makting has drawn the attention of the Revenue Minister and authorities concerned.
PRPC president Md Jalaluddin said about 70 years ago there were only 50 pari (1 pari approximately equals 1 hectare) of paddy field in Awangpat Loukol, which comes under SDO Keirao Bitra in Imphal East, now has around 500 pari.
'Our forefathers' had created two 35 km long canals and one Km long water harvesting 'Karampalli Khong' locally known as 'Komjao' for the benefit of farmers of the area.
However around 5 pari areas of the two canals have been converted as patta land registered under the names of twelve individuals.
Stating that converting the wetland to patta land is against the Wetland Act 2014, Md Jalaluddin has drawn the attention of the Revenue Minister and other authorities concerned to look into the matter.
