Khemchand rules out division in BJP

Asserting that public satisfaction of the development works and policies initiated by him made him to achieve victory in the just concluded state legislative assembly elections, former speaker Yumnam Khemchand said that he is planning to more projects to accelerate development of Singjamei constituency.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle, Khemchand said that an elected representative should always understand the public aspirations and work accordingly.
The people of Singjamei put their trust on him in the 2017 elections and he did his best to bring development in the constituency.
He managed to uphold the public trust by improving infrastructure in terms of road connectivity, drainage system and sports infrastructure, and it became his major strength for winning his second term, he said.
Regarding the political scenario in the state, Khemchand said that BJP is preparing to form the next government after getting absolute majority.
It is unfortunate to have baseless reports of division within BJP and dragging in his name in such reports.
He is an ardent believer of the ideologies of BJP and circulating such baseless reports could be seen as an attempt to disorient the party's organisational structure.
Stating that he believes in following the ideologies and discipline of the party and will not change his stand, Khemchand said that he will always discharge duty and role entrusted to him by the party leadership.
For his constituency, Khemchand said, he is resolute to work day and night to bring development and ensure public welfare.
The responsibility he took during the Covid-19 pandemic could be one of the major factors for his victory in the recent election, he opined and added that his efforts for the safety of the people of his constituency during the pandemic and the isolation centre he set up on his own expense became a model strategy to fight the pandemic.
He also expressed elation that several youths of the constituency contributed their mite in successful management of the isolation centre and it encouraged him to work for the people more.
Khemchand also said that apart from food, medicines and other commodities, he even made arrangements of doctors, nurses and sub-ordinate staff to run the centre.
The MLA elect further said that he is ready to take the development works one step ahead with active support from local clubs and organisations in the constituency.
In the new term, he is planning to take up policies to provide self-employment opportunities to the unemployed youth and also to take up various welfare programmes for women, children and elders, he revealed.
