JAC demands action against negligent doctor, staffs

Imphal, November 22 2013 :
Taking strong exception to the death of Keithellakpam Devjani (32) of Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak from excessive bleeding after giving birth to a male child through normal delivery at RIMS yesterday, the Joint Action Committee Against the Unnatural Death of K Devjani has demanded stringent action against the responsible doctor, staffs and authority of the hospital that led to the death of the woman.
Attended by a large number of womenfolks and members of the local club and the JAC, a sit-in protest cum public meeting was held at the ground of Lukram Leirak Youth Club here today.
The meeting resolved not to claim the dead body for the performing last rites until the responsible doctor and staffs are given necessary punishment and do justice to the victim.
Further, it was decided to organise similar sit-in protest demonstration in other parts until the demands are met.

Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the protest demonstration, husband of the deceased Keithellakpam Netajit and members of the JAC reiterated that Devjani died from the negligence of the attending doctor and staffs.
They demanded that strict action should be initiated against the doctor and staffs so that such unfortunate incident does not occur in future.
Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, who arrived to take part in the protest demonstration, said negligence and failure of the doctor to attend the patient in time was unfortunate.
If the doctors and staffs paid attention to patients then such incident should not have occurred.
Meanwhile, the post mortem of the deceased was conducted at JNIMS by a private doctor under the supervision of Medical Directorate at JNIMS later in the evening.
