20 hurt in clash among players

Imphal, July 19 2012:
At least 19 football players and another coach were hurt when a brawl ensued among the players from four districts taking part in the State Subroto Mukherjee Tournament being held at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Main Stadium in Imphal today.
The incident happened around 9:30 pm yesterday at the Boys' Hostel No-2 and Hockey Stadium after a group of football players who were in inebriated condition beat another player from Nagaram here last evening over a minor issue, sources said.
However, the exact cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained.
The injured include three each from Senapati and Ukhrul districts, four from Churachandpur and 10 including one coach from Tamenglong.
Two players from Tamenglong, namely Tobiah and Maisilung suffered serious injuries in the incident.
But, the duo is now out of danger.
All the players have been returned to the stadium after receiving first aid at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).
Sources said six individuals involved in the brawl have been picked up by police.
All the window panes and doors of the Boys' Hostel building on the ground floor at the Main Stadium were damaged during the fight and that Rs 1,280 was also misplaced from a room occupied by players from Tamenglong district in the incident.
One of the IRB personnel manning the stadium fired one shot in the air to control the crowd.
It is also said that all the players from Churachandpur district had left the stadium after the incident.
A meeting was held at the office of the Director, Sports in connection with the incident.
