Imphal, July 19 2012:
A sit-in-demonstration was staged today at Moirang hemam Leikai community hall in connection with monetary demand served by KCP-MC (Nongdrenkhomba) to Light Commercial Vehicles Transport Society, whose office is at the same locality where the demonstration was held.
speaking to media persons during the demonstration, which was participated by its members, Society's joint secretary Premchand Mayengbam stated that on July 9 a demand note of Rs 4 lakh was placed at the office of the Society by unknown person(s) suspected to be activists of the KCP group with July 20 as the deadline to cough up the amount.
The note warning that vehicles under the Society would be set ablaze in case the demanded amount is not paid within the specified day also asserted that individual transport operators may ply on their own risk, the secretary informed.
Expressing that as there was no opportunity to meet representative of the armed outfit on the issue, Premchand conveyed through the media that Tata Magic and Tata Winger operating under the Society were acquired by either sale of individual lands or mortgaging standing properties to get loan for sustaining livelihood.
He also fervently appealed to the group concerned to withdraw the demand and ensure no one gets harm or the vehicles suffer loss taking into account financial hardships being faced by the Society members in repaying the loans.
