State observes International Human Rights Day

The International Human Rights Day was widely observed on Thursday in different parts of Manipur by different organisations.
It may be mentioned that Human Rights Day is observed on December 10 every year around the globe to commemorate the day on which the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.In 1950, the Assembly passed resolution 423(v) and invited all States and organisations to observe December 10 of every year as Human Rights Day.
Human Rights Initiative (HRI) observed the day at the conference hall of the office located at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of HRI Wahengbam Joykumar said that people of Manipur have been living in turmoil since the day when Manipur, which has more than 2000 years of history, was merged with India.
Retired District and Sessions Judge L Birendrakumar and Manipur Cultural Integration Conference President Aribam Brajakumar attended the function as Chief Guest and President respectively while HRI Acting Chairman Yumnam Ratankumar being the Guest of Honour.
Manipur State Legal Services Authority also observed the International Human Rights Day at the conference hall of DJ Imphal East.
District and Session judge Imphal West M Manojkumar; District and Session judge Imphal East Salam Imocha; NDPS judge Th Saibom; Director of Prosecution Manipur Ng Tejkumar and AMBAG President H Chandrajit Sharma were the presidium members during the function.
Meanwhile, Sharmila Kanba Lup (SAKL) observed the International Human Rights Day on "Repeal AFSPA and Respect Human Rights" at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound.
SAKL convener Soibam Momon Leima; UCM Vice President Sunil Karam and Mapi Council Advisor Th Manihar were the presidium members of the function.
The Committee on Human Rights (COHR) Manipur also observed the day at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
Dr N Pramod, Sr faculty member LMS Law College, Imphal attended as Chief Guest while Phulindro Konsam, Chairman of COHR being the President.
AMWJU President Wangkhemcha Shyamjai and AMUCO President Dr Y Mani Khuman were the Guests of Honour.
All Manipur Muslim Girl Students' Union (AMMGSU) observed the International Human Rights Day on Thursday at Muslim Girls Hostel, Minuthong Hatta.
An open discussion on "Manipuri Women: Rights and Harmony" was also held on the day.
Naoriya Pakhanglakpa A/C MLA RK Anand attended as Chief Guest, AMMGSU President Rukhsar Choudhury as President while Manipur College Assistant Professor Dr Janatun Begum and Manipur India International Mind Education Director Rev Choung Young being the Guests of Honour.
Centre for Human Rights and Duties Education Manipur University also observed the day on the theme of "our right, our freedom" at the hall of the centre.
Manipur Government consultant Dr RK Nimai and former dean of School of Social Science MU Prof Ksh Bimola attended as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Manipur State Child Rights Protection Commission Chairperson SSK Sharma and Dean of School of Humanities MU Prof Mani Meetei attended as Guests of Honour.
Centre for Human Rights and Duties MU Coordinator Dr Gaikhamsin Riamei also spoke on the day.
