Jiribam (Imphal East), December 10 2015:
Condemning the State Government's inability to address the grievances of the people of Jiribam, the Barak Brothers Union (BBU) appealed to local MLA Th Debendra Singh and the State Government to establish a well-equipped hospital in Jiribam to cater to the medical needs of the people, reports our correspondent.
In a statement, BBU general secretary stated that Borobekra Rural Hospital has no doctor and has inadequate staff members.
As a result, people would visit Jiribam Community Health Centre.
However, the deplorable road condition between Barak Circle and Jiribam CHC has been posing great difficulty to the commuters.
Since the CHC and hospital are not well-equipped and do not have enough medical staff members, people have no option but to travel to Cachar by spending huge amount of money, he said.
He further said that one expecting woman who was on the way to Jiribam CHC met with an accident this morning at Mongbung due to the pitiable road condition.
The incident could have been averted had the State Government and the local MLA initiated developmental works earnestly.
There have been instances when an expecting mother died due to lack of medical facilities, he added.
MLA Debendra and the State Government should consider the hardships of the people and take up necessary steps to set up an efficient hospital in the area, the general secretary of BBU appealed.
