Experts from US promise help to PLHAs in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, November 05 2012: For people living with HIV/AIDS in Ukhrul, there is good news with opportunities of assured funds for their welfare and advanced training required for diagnosis and handling patient infected/affected by the disease.

Experts from the United States, who visited Ukhrul and attended as resource persons in the daylong seminar on ''Reality of Cure for HIV/AIDs and Drug Abuse'' organised by Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) at Ukhrul town hall on November 3, assured help for fund and research programme on the issue of HIV/AIDS in the district that has high prevalence rate in Manipur.

On Saturday, a three-member team comprising Dr.James Haorah and Dr.Shilpa Buch, both from University of Nebraska Medical Centre, USA along with scientist Dr.Pankaj Seth, Assistant Professor, Neurovirology Division, National Brain Research Cetre, Haryana, made a visit to Leishiphung Christian Hospital and spelt out the need for advance training programme for HIV diagnosis and handling AIDS patients in the district.

The visiting experts assured all possible help in materialising the proposed plans and avail the opportunities to the people in near future.

In the daylong seminar attended by school children from Ukhrul town, the resource persons delivered lectures on ''Cure for HIV/AIDS disease and Drug Abuse.

Can we begin in Ukhrul?,'' ''Are we doing enough to cure HIV/AIDS in India?'' and 'Current Scientific World appraoch to cure HIV/AIDS disease'' .

In yet another positive message to PLHAs, Haorah iterated that there is a possibility of new anti-HIV drug that holds promise and hope for AIDS patients.

Pankaj stated that HIV's transfer to brain is faster in the case of drug abusing patients.

On the other hand, Shilpa emphasised the need for women empowerment in prevention of HIV.

In a message to the people in the State, the experts promise to initiate HIV intervention measures with professional aid from the US and abroad, stating Dr.James Haorah would be part of future initiatives in this regard.
