Imphal, November 05 2012:
Semi low-floor buses which were pulled out of service due to increasing financial deficits, have been put to service once again from today.
Out of 14 semi low-floor buses given to the State Government under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM), 12 were plying on different routes of Imphal while the remaining two buses were reserved for replacement in cases of break down among the in-service buses.
But the buses were incurring deficits rather than earning any profit.
Subsequently all the 12 buses were pulled out of service since October 27 .
Talking with TSE, one official of Transport Department maintained that the semi low-floor buses were pulled out of service due to technical problems.
But another source informed that it was only two buses, not all the 12 buses, which developed technical snags.
Nevertheless, four semi low-floor buses were once again put into service from today, and all of them are plying on Manipur University-Koirengei route.
Semi low-floor bus service on Malom-Khurai Chairenthong route and Lamphel DC office-Porompat DC route remain suspended, added the source.
