Workshop on manuscripts preservation held

A national workshop on preventive conservation of manuscripts was held today Manipur State Archives Manuscripts Conservation Centre, Keishampat.
The workshop was jointly organised by Manipur State Archives, Manuscripts Conservation Centre, Imphal and National Mission for Manuscripts, Department of Culture, New Delhi.
The inaugural function of the workshop was graced by Padmashri RK Jhaljit Singh, retd Principal, Government Law College and Malika Mitra, Director, INTACH, Bhubhaneshwar as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Padmashri RK Jhaljit said manuscripts are part of heritage and deserved due preservation while lauding the efforts of the Government in preservation of manuscripts.
Malika Mitra, while speaking at the occasion, stressed on the need to protect and preserve manuscripts for posterity.
She also suggested preservation of manuscripts by using advanced technology.
Project Coordinator of MRC, MCC, Manipur, Dr K Sobita said the National Mission for Manuscript was set up in 2003 with the objective to preserve manuscripts.
In its attempt to spread the importance of manuscripts preservation, the MCC had conducted a 15-day workshop at border town Moreh last year.
She added that efforts are on to preserve manuscripts and even insecticides are used for it.
