Imphal, November 05 2012:
The State election office has decided to investigate the contrasting population figures as recorded in the electoral roll and the census report.
While the census report recorded greater number of males, the figure of female population is higher than males in the electoral roll.
Chief Electoral Officer PC Lawmkunga presided a meeting today in the conference hall of Old Secretariat where progress of the ongoing electoral roll revision was studied together with Deputy Commissioners and EROs.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, PC Lamwkunga, quoting 2011 census report, said that the State's male-female ratio is 1000:975.But the ratio was reversed to 1000 males per 1027 females in the electoral roll.
The sex ratio as recorded in the electoral roll varies from one district to another and also from one constituency to another.
Since it is possible women, after marriage, get enrolled in two different places, necessary measures have been initiated to find out the facts using de-duplication software.
Given the low rate of collecting electoral roll forms and uploading data on the website, all EROs of the valley districts would be given a computer set each.
As against the census report which recorded 61,465 people in the age group of 18 to 19 years, only 11,897 people have been listed in the draft electoral roll.
Nonetheless, necessary efforts would be put in to enlist all the remaining eligible voters.
As the Election Commission of India has extended the period for submitting claims and objections (regarding photo electoral roll) till November 20, the final electoral roll of the State would be published in January next year.
The total electors of the State may reach 18,26,859 by the time the final electoral roll is published next year, PC Lawmkunga stated.
