29 bombs of 2nd WW-II excavated

Villagers of Chirang and Moibung Khunnou have excavated 29 bombs in addition to knives and iron pipes from the foothills of Kounu on April 2. The bombs and other excavated tools are believed to be dating back to 2nd World War.
The bombs were detected when the villagers organized a Social Service Camp at Kounu hill to develop the surrounding areas of Ibendhou Konung Lairembi which is atop the Kounu hill.
The bombs and other excavated items were displayed to the media at Senjam Chirang Youth Club today.
Talking to mediapersons on the occasion, Wathamm Jotin, Vice President of Kounu Lairembi Thougal Lup said that the volunteers who participated in the Social Service Camp were searching for a cave which was believed to be around Ibendhou Konung Lairembi complex when they found the bombs under the large broken rocks.

He informed that among 29 bombs, four bombs were marked with Booster M 20 A1 ROP 1942 LOT 3 6965 337, Booster M 20 A1 ROP 1942 LOT 3 6965 229, Booster M 20 A1 ROP 1942 LOT 3 6965 202 and Booster M 20 A1 LOT 22/ 98 - 42 P-A - 1942 .
As such, these bombs could have been used during the 2nd World War.
Local elders have also said during 2nd World War, one plane crashed at the site where the bombs were found.
Some remnants of the crashed plane were also discovered by the native villagers a long time back.
The discovered bombs would be handed over to the authority concerned of the state government, Watham Jotin informed, adding that the site would be excavated further and efforts would be made to convert it as a tourism spot.
