CM, others plot extensive proxy voting: CPI to CEO

Imphal, April 17 2019: CPI has alleged that Chief Minister N Biren, Works Minister Th Biswajit and MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar have been plotting massive proxy voting in their respective Assembly segments during the polling for Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat tomorrow.

CPI has lodged a complaint to the CEO in this regard and it further stated their workers are being threatened selectively.

Speaking to media persons at Irabot Bhavan here today, CPI State Secretary L Sotinkumar showed copies of the complaint they have lodged to the CEO.

It is a matter of grave concern that the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues have been planning to twist the polling process in favour of BJP, he said.

He expressed serious apprehension that BJP supporters may resort to booth capturing and massive proxy voting in Heingang AC, Thongju AC and Andro AC at the behest of Chief Minister N Biren, Works Minister Th Biswajit and MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar respectively.

Moreover, BJP supporters have been threatening that no polling agents of other parties particularly CPI except those of BJP should be present inside polling stations of the three Assembly segments, Sotinkumar said.

CPI State office has been informed directly or through telephone by CPI branch offices and local units about the threats they received from BJP supporters.

There were instances in the past when Th Shyamkumar resorted to such unscrupulous, unwanted and objectionable tactics in total defiance of the model code of conduct, Sotinkumar said.

He said that BJP Ministers and MLAs including the Chief Minister have been violating the model code of conduct by using Government vehicles for electioneering purpose.

Highlighting all these points, CPI has appealed to the CEO to take up appropriate security measures so that people can exercise their right to vote in a free and fair manner, he conveyed.

He said that CPI would fight all unethical and unlawful tactics which the party in power is poised to employ in Heingang, Thongju and Andro Assembly segments.

Sotinkumar said that they have submitted the same complaint to the ECI's general observer currently stationed in the State.
