Don Bosco College, Maram hosts cultural festival

Don Bosco College (DBC), Maram hosted Cul-Fusion, a cultural fest yesterday which was organised by the Department of Sociology in collaboration with the Department of English.
The event was organised to impart cultural values to the students and to showcase the cultural diversity of the multi-myriad communities.
The programme is an initial step of establishing a museum in the college which reflects North-East India's culture, said a statement of L Marvin Kapangshai, HOD, Department of Sociology, DBC Maram, Senapati.
Students belonging to 80 different recognised tribal communities across the region are pursuing their studies in the college.
Artefacts collected from around 40 tribal communities were put on display while cultural dances representing various communities were performed at the event.
Folk and fusion songs also glorified the fest.
Food stalls exhibiting food cults and special recipes constituted the attracting features.
Col Vijendra Singh, Deputy Commandant, Senapati District, Major Zamkholen, 34 Assam Rifles, Namba, Chief of Maram, Rev Fr Sebastian Jose SDB, Rector, DBC Maram and Rev Fr (Dr) KO Sebastian SDB, Principal, DBC Maram, graced the function as presidium members.
Chief guest of the function, Col Vijendra Singh stressed on the need for understanding each other's culture.
"Being a citizen of a Nation with diverse culture, as we moved on, there is a need to accommodate the diversity.
Now is time to change our concept over 'diversity' and inculcate a capability of culture fusion for social cohesion," he said.
Rev Fr KO Sebastian, Principal DBC, said : "In today's world, the young generation is technologically advanced and digitally educated.
Awareness among the youths about culture should be blended with the technological knowledge.
Digitising ingredients of culture for preservation, promotion, and propagation is the vision of the festival" .
