One nomination paper rejected

Imphal, May 10 2011:
Except one, candidatures of other candidates who have filed nomination papers for the May 25 IMC election have cleared scrutiny held today.
Returning Officer rejected candidature of a person who filed for ward member in the scrutiny held at the RO offices.
Meanwhile, Thambaljao Faomei, a former chairperson of IMC, has been declared elected uncontested from the ward no.26 where no other filed nomination for candidature.
Candidature of 98 persons who filed nomination papers for councilors and 169 ward members were declared qualified for contesting the elections for electing 27 councillors and 54 ward development members.
The number of candidates which would be in the fray, however will be known after the expiry of nomination withdrawal tomorrow.
Political parties have begun extensive election campaign for the election.
Congress is fielding its candidates in all the 27 wards, BJP in 10 wards, CPI in four wards, Trinamool Congress in six wards, NCP in 10 wards and JD (U) in one ward.
A total of 36 independent candidates are also in fray.
