Imphal, May 05 2015 :
All the preventive measures that have been taken up by the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services under the instruction of the Government of Manipur has come to an end today, with the declaration that the outbreak of Bird Flu has been brought under control in the State.
With this, the ban on movement and sale of poultry birds and products has been uplifted from today onwards.
It may be mentioned that outbreak of Bird Flu was confirmed at the Poultry Unit of ICAR Lamphelpat on April 18 after NIHSAD-Bhopal confirmed the sample sent from this unit as positive.
After that, Veterinary Department took up the step of culling poultry birds as a precautionary measure to combat the outbreak in the Infected Zone i.e those areas under the 1 km radius from epicentre ICAR Lamphel.

And for the Survellaince Zone areas (those areas within 10-km radius of the epicentre), the Department had formed sub-committees and prohibited the movement, transportation and sale of poultry birds and products such as meat, eggs etc.
However, the ban on the survellaince zone has been lifted from today onwards as the NIHSAD-Bhopal had confirmed that the samples sent by the four committees were negative.
The samples were taken from various areas of Imphal East and Imphal West.
Meanwhile, the lifting of the ban is unlikely to allow immediate resumption of proper and adequate business of poultry birds and products as the department had culled a large number of birds and destroyed eggs.
On the other hand, different sections of the people raised doubt on the authenticity of the claim that Bird Flu had been confirmed in the State.
