Chief Secretary urges artists to promote art and culture

The closing ceremony of the yearlong celebration of the 125th birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru by Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy was held on Saturday at the open air theatre of
the academy.
Attending the function as Chief Guest, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore said that Manipur is home to rich art and culture traditions including Khunung Isei, Khongjom Parba, Nat Sankriton, Pung Cholom and Rash-Leela.
"Artists have a big role to play in preserving as well in promoting these art and culture forms and people should be proud of them", said the Chief Minister.
O Nabakishore pointed out that some art and culture forms of Manipur like the Khunung Isei were on the verge of extinction but people now have realized their values and started preserving such art forms.
The function was attended by Art and Culture Department Secretary K Radhakumar as President.
Floral tributes were paid to the photograph of the late Prime Minister.
Students of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy also showcased their talents on Lai Haraoba, Thang-Ta, Chali Pareng, Kabui dance, Pung Cholom and Mao dance.
