Imphal, November 14 2015 :
The 125th birth anniversary celebration, organised by Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, has concluded at the open air theatre of the academy today.
Chief Secretary O Nabakishore and Secretary (Art and Culture) K Radhakumar attended the closing function as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, O Nabakishore said that Manipur has many unique art forms which include Khongjom Parva, Nata Sankirtan and Khullang Esei etc.
Nabakishore said that it is encouraging to witness some art productions which are based on Khullang Esei.
He said that age-old parlance and proverbs used in Khullang Esei must be preserved as these are dying day by day.
Instead of promoting Ras Leela alone to visitors, folktales like Henjunaha and Yairipok Thambalnu must also be shown, he opined.
He further observed that art forms like Ras Leela and Pung Cholom are precious, as such, these must be presented occasionally instead of showing it all the time.
Lai Haraoba, Thang-Ta, Chali Pareng, Kabui dance, Pung Cholom and Mao dance were presented by the students of foundation course of the academy.
Earlier at the beginning of the function, the gathering offered flowers at the photograph of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
