Imphal, November 14 2015 :
Due to lack of fund and proper venues, most of the items which falls under extreme sports category will be excluded from the upcoming Sangai Festival 2015 which is scheduled to begin on November 21 .
Youth adventures, water sports and extreme sports are very popular with the youth of Manipur.
Manipur Mountaineering and Tracking Association (MMTA) is the organizer of all these sports events.
An MMTA source however said that the main venue of the festival at Hapta Kangjeibung can also be the venue for adventure and extreme sports.
The source said that the State could develop extreme sports as part of the festival and also arrange proper venues for holding such sports.
"If the authorities organize adventure and extreme sports at Lamdan Sport Complex, then it will be economically beneficial for the Government and many other items can also be included on the list", said the source.
Organising such events at different venues cost much higher.
Organising youth adventure water sports and extreme sports could cost more than rupees forty lakhs but State Tourism Department has allocated around twenty lakh rupees only in the last seven years, said the MMTA source.
Some of the events which will be excluded from the Sangai Festival include Commando Bridge, Somo Fighting, Body Zorbing, Human Sling Shoot and ATB Sling.
The MMTA source also opined that budget should be updated every financial year and new sports items introduced.
