FREINDS releases report on Inner Line Permit

The Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) today released a report of an expert committee for the introduction of Inner Line Permit system in the state.
The report will be submitted to the Chief Minister of Manipur on November 3 .
The report was released by retired Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court RK Manisana in a function held at the office of the society at Keishampat, Imphal.
He was also the chairman of the expert committee formed by FREINDS.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Manisana said that the Inner Line Permit system is a must for the safeguard of the indigenous people as per the finding of the expert committee.
The committee has also chalked out a legal framework for the implementation of the system in the state.
He called for active role of media on the issue.
Expressing the need for implementation of the system, Lecturer, Imphal College K Shekharjit who is also a member of the expert committee said that it is important for the government to implement the system to safeguard the indigenous people.
There is also a separate section for the indigenous people's right in the United Nations.
It will also help tremendously in identifying illegal migrants in the state, he said.
FREINDS president Sapamcha Jadumani who is also the convener of the expert committee said that FREINDS had organised many campaigns, awareness programmes and workshops on the implementation of the ILP system in the state.
The report of the expert committee being released today which highlights the importance and advantages of implementing the ILP system in the state will be submitted to the Chief Minister of Manipur on November 3 .
Retired Judge C Upendra said that the ILP system is not an anti Indian system.
It will not challenge the constitution and the laws of the country but uphold the rights of the indigenous people and regulate a proper system of migrant inflows in the country.
