Ukhrul, November 01 2011:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has termed the MoU signed between the Government of Manipur and the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) on Monday midnight as highly condemnable and a "divisive scheme to incite communal conflicts and is in total violation of the understanding already reached with the Naga People" .
In the emergency meeting of the United Naga Council and the frontal Organizations held today, the UNC took serious note of the MoU signed between the Government of Manipur (GoM) and the SHDDC on October 31 midnight in Imphal.
"The meeting deplored the manner in which the GoM had executed the agreement without a consensus and consent of the Nagas, notwithstanding the four MoUs signed with Naga people and the sustained public protest against the manner in which the GoM has been handling the issue," it stated.
The UNC alleged that "the action of the GoM is highly condemnable and is a divisive scheme to incite communal conflicts" It further argued that "the unmandated Naga district councillors and the Naga representatives are a party to this great sell out of the rights of the people and will be answerable to the Naga people" .
In this regard, the UNC resolved to enforce total bandh for three days with effect from midnight of November 3."This total bandh will cover all Government Offices, educational institutions, movement of all type of private and commercial vehicle including the construction work of the Jiribam- Tupul- Imphal railway line and the BRTF manning highways in the Naga areas.
It has also been decided that the ongoing economic blockade will continue until further notice," the statement read.
It warned that any individual, department, organisatin violating this total bandh will be responsible for any untoward incident.
Further, the UNC and ANSAM have directed all constituent Units and frontal organization for effective enforcement in their respective jurisdiction.
'The Naga public and all Naga organization are hereby informed to be prepared for any eventuality and to continue democratic protest activities for protection of our land,' the statement of two Naga apex bodies exhorted.
