IT set to play significant role in future: IPR minister

"The importance of information technology would increase manifold in Manipur, once the Trans-Asian Highway, Railways and International Airport become functional and there is more inflow of tourists", Minister of Information and Public Relations (IPR) TN Haokip has stated.
The Minister was speaking as Chief Guest of the IPR Day observance organized by Department of Information and Public Relations at the Moirangkhom office complex of the Department here today.
The Minister observed that information technology is becoming so important in our day-to-day life today and it is bound to increase once the projects of Trans-Asian Highway, Railways and International Airport become a reality in Manipur.
Considering the importance of the service of mediapersons in disseminating information to the public and to encourage them, the government is discussing issues related to hiking the cash rewards under the State Journalist Award and Journalist Pension Scheme, Minister Haokip announced, adding that it is expected to be become functional from the next fiscal year.
In his Presidential address, Commissioner of IPR L Lakher observed that the IPR Day being celebrated should be an opportunity for all the staffs of the Department to understand the importance of their role.
The staffs should also not forget the fact that the people of Manipur take the information being provided through mass media very seriously, the Commissioner added.
As part of the celebration, the Chief Guest inaugurated a five-day long photo exhibition highlighting the achievements of the ruling SPF Government.
At the occasion, staffs and pensioners of DIPR were felicitated with gifts.
However, presentation of blankets among the staffs and towels among the pensioners caused resentment.
IPR Day was also observed in other districts under the aegis of respective District Information Offices.
