World Soil Day observed at Chandel, Thoubal

The World Soil Day under the theme "Keep soil alive; protect soil biodiversity" was celebrated at the conference hall of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chandel today.
The programme was graced by Mayanglambam Rajkumar, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel as the chief guest and Gladney Monsang, District Agricultural Officer, Chandel as the guest of honour.
Dr K Sonamani Singh, SMS (SWCE), KVK, Chandel in his keynote address put into words the importance of World Soil Day celebration annually.
He stressed the need for the farmers of the district to inculcate good farming practices for keeping the soil healthy and urged the farmers to practice mulching and crop rotation in their fields.
In his speech, Mayanglambam Rajkumar emphasised the need for maintaining soil fertility through organic means and to avoid non-judicious use of chemical fertilisers in the fields.
The DC expressed hope that the farmers of the district will understand the importance of Soil Health Cards for assessing the existing health status of their fields and will also strive towards the overall development of the district through sincere and dedicated approach in farming.
Gladney Monsang stressed the need for getting the soil tested by the farmers and to consult the experts in concerned departments to make necessary soil amendments healthily and sustainably.
After the programme, live webcasting of inauguration programme Of Directors Conference chaired by Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare was telecast and attended by staff of KVK Chandel and the farmers.
In the function, 58 progressive farmers participated and 49 SHCs were distributed along with seeds of cabbage, coriander, carrot, garden pea and also vermicompost manure.
Thoubal
World Soil Day was also observed at Thoubal under the theme "Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity".
Organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Thoubal at its complex, the observance was attended by Head of KVK Thoubal, senior scientist Dr Zeshmarani Sarangthem; rice breeder of Rice Research Station Wangbal, Kh Ngamrei and District Agriculture Officer Thoubal N Joykumar as presidium members.
During the programme, Knowledge System and Homestead Agricultural Management in Tribal Areas Schemes" (KSHAMTA) which will be implemented in hill areas of the district was also launched.
As part of Rabi campaign 2020-21, vegetable seeds, earthworms, chicks and Soil Health Cards to select farmers.
