FIFTEEN PERSONNEL of the state police departments and its units were among the 671 personnel who have been awarded police medals for on the occasion of the Republic Day this year.
Among them four are awardees of the Police Medals for Meritorious Service which have been awarded to 478 personnel across the country while 11 personnel are among the 107 who have been declared for the police medal for gallantry, according to the announcement of the Union ministry of home affairs on the eve of the Republic Day celebration.
Asem Shyamachoron, SB (CID), Jemandar Md Giyasjuddin of 7th IRB, inspector Aribam Gyneshwor, SP Imphal west control room and jemandar Koijam Muhindro of 2nd IRB are the state police personnel who are listed in the announcement for the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
The 11 state personnel included among the awardees of Police Medals for Gallantry are M Premkumar, head constable, P Lokendro, constable, S Robindro, constable, Y Kishorchand inspector, Md Tajuddin Khan, rifleman, T Haridas, rifleman, Md Doulat Khan, rifleman, M Sanjit Sharma, jemandar, Md Shoukat Ali, head constable, H Guneshwor, rifleman and K Sashikumar Sharma, rifleman.
Reports also said that the medals which announced on the occasion of the Republic Day of India will be distributed to the Independence Day of India while those personnel who were included in the list of the awardees in the last year�s Independence will be given on this occasion.
Among the states of the country, Maharastra with 21 personnel included in the gallantry awardees at the top, Jammu and Kashmir with 14 next to highest while Manipur in the third with 11.
Meanwhile, as a part of security in and around the streets which the march-pass parades are to follow have tighten up further with the taking of the post by 888 state security personnel and seven platoons of CRPF including two platoons of women personnel from this afternoon 2 pm Frisking and checking of all kinds of vehicles entering the Imphal city have also intensified from this evening.
Stricter frisking and checking witnessed on the main roads running adjoining to Raj Bhavan and chief minister's bungalow this evening.
