Contemplating disciplinary proceedings against Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong district Devesh Deval, the DC has been put under suspension with immediate effect, said a notification issued by Under Secretary (DP) KC Laishram.
During the period of suspension, the headquarters of Devesh Deval should be Imphal and he should not leave his headquarters without obtaining prior permission from the Chief Secretary, it mentioned.
On the other hand, following Devesh Deval's suspension, ADC Tamenglong RH Gonmei has been given the charge of Tamenglong DC until further orders.
A source said that the DC was placed under suspension as it came to light that the officer had not issued the cheque to the people whose land were acquired for the Jiri rail track.
A sum of Rs 10.35 crore was entrusted to the DC for acquiring land to lay rail tracks in Tamenglong district, said the source, but it has come to light that the money was not disbursed to the affected land owners and thus resulting in delayed of the laying the rail tracks.
This was confirmed when a team comprising of the Revenue Secretary, Deputy Director of Transport Department, Under Secretary of the Revenue Dept and Chief Engineer of the Railways today.
The officials were sent for a spot study by the Chief Minister himself.
Apart from discovering this, the DC was also not at his place of posting.
The inspection team has also reportedly disbursed Rs 88 lakhs out of the total Rs 10.35 crores to the affected land owners during the visit today.
