A BOMB exploded tonight near the Lamlong bridge connecting Dingku road with Khurai Lamlong to night at around 8:15 pm even as security forces engaged in gunfight with suspected MPA cadres of the UNLF this afternoon at Khoidum Ching
Meanwhile, as a part of security in and around the streets which the march-pass parades are to follow have tighten up further with the taking of the post by 888 state security personnel and seven platoons of CRPF including two platoons of women personnel from this afternoon 2 pm.
Frisking and checking of all kinds of vehicles entering the Imphal city have also intensified from this evening.
Stricter frisking and checking witnessed on the main roads running adjoining to Raj Bhavan and chief minister�s bungalow this evening.
Police also conducted a mopping operation in Hatta Golapati area this afternoon as a part of security measures.
However, there were no reports of rounding up any suspect during the operation.
Reports said that a bomb planted by suspected militants near the Lamlong Bridge on the Dingku road side exploded tonight at around 8:15 pm apparently in connection with the boycott called by the underground outfits in the state.
No casualty reported in the explosion.
Earlier today, a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of Assam Rifles engaged in gunfight with suspected UNLF cadres at Khoidum Ching this afternoon at around 1.30 pm.
No casualty on both side reported till the time of filing this report even as further search operation to the escaping rebels are on.
Police said that the combined force rushed to the area on getting tip-off of presence of some militants in the area.
With heavy reinforcement of security forces under the supervision of the Thoubal district SP, the area where the rebels are believed to escape has been kept cordon and search operation has started launching, the police officer said.
