Imphal, January 25 2009:
Along with inaugurating a newly constructed rest house and the brick fencing wall erected around the temple of the village Lairembi and Lairemba (deities) at Rahbutao in Saranamei village under Mao Assembly Constituency, a cultural exchange programme was organised yesterday with the main objective of cementing the bond between the hill and the valley people.
The construction of the fencing wall of the village deities in Saranamei village, located around 12 kms from National Highway 39 (Imphal-Dimapur Road) has been donated by the Nongthombam clan.

To mark the occasion, a cultural exchange programme was also organised during which cultural troupe of North Imphal Cultural Organisation, Koirengei enthralled the large gathering with presentation of Thougal Jagoi, Thang-Ta demonstration and Manipuri folk songs.
Representatives of BC Saint School and CYF also performed various cultural dances making the event worth reckoning.
Speaking at the occasion, president of Information Centre for Hill Areas of Manipur (ICHAM) Rajendro observed that rediscovery of an important historical link with Saranamei village has reinforced the inalienable bonding between the hill and the valley people of the State.
He also hoped that organising such cultural exchange programmes would help in promotion of relationship among the people.
Referring to the memorandum handed over through ICHAM with regard to paying attention to the problems of road communication and transport, education and health care facilities, water and power supply, being faced by the people, Rajendro assured that necessary steps would be taken up jointly to ensure the villagers are not deprived of the benefits of the developmental works being taken up by the Government.
He also appealed to the media to extend every possible assistance in highlighting the problems of the people living in the remote hill areas of the State.
PMM president Dr PY Hitson, PTM president Akha Danii and PNM president P Delilah who were also present and spoke at the occasion observed that Saranamei is a village with a great historical background and organising such cultural exchange programmes would help in promotion of social relationship among the people.
