Food safety drive conducted at Thoubal and Kakching

Food Safety officials, under the instruction of N Devendro Singh, designated officer, Thoubal and Kakching conducted an intense food safety drive and awareness at important market places in Thoubal and Kakching districts today.
The food safety inspection was led by three food safety officers namely M Dinesh Singh, A Brojendro Singh and Md Altaf Hussain along with Athokpam Bihari Singh, technical officer, State Food Testing Laboratory, Imphal.
According to a release of the Designated Officer, Food Safety Administration, Thoubal and Kakching, "Khoya is a dairy product, made of either dried whole milk or milk thickened by heating in an open iron pan.
Khoya may be adulterated with starch and fine flour.
It can also contain urea and detergent" .
"Taking note of it, the food safety officials inspected as well as conducted awareness to food business operators and public at important market places," said the release.
Lilong Bazar, Thoubal Bazar, Wangjing Bazar, Kakching Lamkhai and Kakching Bazar were covered in the drive, it said.
During the inspection, the food business operators were told not to indulge in any kind of adulteration in milk and milk products, it said.
Further, the food safety officials instructed the owner of the sweet shops to prepare and serve food hygienically to the public.
Furthermore, the sweet shops were also instructed to use only food grade colours in the preparation of their food items, it added.
