Desecration of Ema Kounu Lairembi General strike from 5 am today

With the State Government not bothering to fulfil any of its five demands, the Ilamtam Yelhoumi Kanpa Lup (ILTYKL) has announced that it would launch an indefinite State-wide general strike from 5 am tomorrow.
The bandh has been called in protest against the desecration of Ema Kounu Lairembi at Koubru on October 4 .
Speaking to media persons at the Sanamahi Temple Board today, ILTYKL co-convenor Waikhom Nillakanta said that the State Government neither fulfilled its demands nor gave any assurance till date to fulfil the same.
As such, an indefinite general strike would be launched all over the State from 5 am tomorrow, he said.
Maintaining that all the people ought to support the general strike in the interest of the State, Nillakanta appealed to one and all to support the movement for the sake of justice.
People who dare to defy the general strike would be doing so at their own risk, he warned The ILTKYL is demanding that those reponsible for desecrating the place of worship should be pulled up and penalised, to let those who desecrated the place to restore it, to put a stop to renaming places by new settlers, to draft a law and codify the same to protect places of worship and the collect all the arms in possession of certain groups of people and not to dub anyone as unlawful members of any group if they take up arms for self defence.
Meanwhile, the Lamjing Meira Khudung Inba Lup (LAMKIL), Singjamei has come out in support of the indefinite bandh called by the Ilamtam Yelhoumi Kanba Lup from October 14 morning.
LAMKIL in a statement, expressed support not only to the bandh but also any other form of agitation initiated by the Ilamtam Yelhoumi Kanba Lup.
LAMKIL believes in mutual respect and peaceful co-existence among all communities but will not remain a silent spectator when there is any threat to the indigenous people, religious identity and territorial integrity, it said.
