Common coot rescued

An Eurasian coot also known as common coot rescued yesterday from Ngakra Pat was released today.
A team who were conducting waterbird census at Loktak lake had found two dead common coots and rescued another two from Ngakra Pat area.
However, one of the two live birds died while the other was treated and released today, said, officials.
The Wildlife Wing-Forest Department and Indian Bird Conservation Network (IBCN) Manipur Chapter have been conducting the waterbird census.
The bird was released by the Honorary Wildlife Warden K Jugeshwore, Range Officer Keibul Lamjao National Park I & II and others under the supervision of the Deputy Conservator of Forest, Park & Sanctuary, Sanajaoba Khuraijam.
Volunteers of the Global Science Club Khoijuman who were taking part in the Loktak Waterbird Census 2020 found the birds.
The dead birds have been sent to a Lab at Sanjenthong for investigation, said officials adding that they suspect poisoning to be the cause of the deaths.
