Villager shot dead by suspected NSCN (IM) cadres in Ngairong

Suspected armed cadres of NSCN (IM) shot dead a villager and indiscriminately fired several rounds from automatic weapons besides lobbing grenades at the house of former Assistant Chief of Ngairong Village under Tengnoupal Police Station in Chandel district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as one S Walunglua Aimol alias Manglun (50) of Ngairong village whose house is located near the house of the former Assistant village Chief.
At round 4.30 am, the cadres allegedly shot dead Walunglua after being tortured before firing several rounds and lobbing two hand grenades inside the house of (L) Jialungphun, a former Assistant Chief of Ngairong village.
Sources said one person was also injured in the attack which also damaged the house.
However, when inquired by the media persons, the villagers and the house owner said there were no other casualties in the attack.
The police along with police personnel and Assam Rifles personnel rushed to the spot and launched an operation to nab the assailants.
But there were no reports of any arrest made during the search operation.
A team from Tengnoupal Police Station led by its officer in-charge recovered the body and later sent it to JNIMS Imphal for post mortem.
Wife of the deceased Chinneilhing alleged, "My husband was killed in cold blood by NSCN (IM) cadres after forcibly taking him out of the house early this morning.
Around 20 armed NSCN (IM) cadres raided my house before shooting my husband to death" .
She condemned the brutal act of the NSCN (IM) and asked the motive behind the killing of her husband.
"My husband was a cultivator.
I have five children, how can I survive without my husband," she said.
The house owner, S Alianchung Aimol, son of the former Assistant Village Chief, said that the attack took place at around 4.30 am when a group of heavily armed cadres indulged in indiscriminate firing which was followed by explosion of two hand grenades in the village.
They then fled the village following which the villagers found Walunglua shot to death near the house, he added.
Speaking to the media persons, S Areng Aimol, elder brother of the deceased, said that Walunglua was killed after torturing by the attackers who were working in the interest of Aimol Naga.
He said his brother stood against declaring the Aimol as a Naga tribe by some vested interest.
"And today, my brother sacrificed for the cause of the Aimols who do not belong to the Naga tribe," he added.
Some villagers said that armed cadres numbering around 13 left the village after the incident and fired a shot in the air on reaching the hill top on the outskirts of the village.
