Imphal, November 18 2015:
The Kuki Students' Organisation and the Kuki Chiefs' Association minutely discussed the condition of Tengnoupal-Shangshak road during an emergency joint meeting on November 14 .
The meeting took note of the point that the said road connects Ukhrul and Chandel districts and is an important road, which has been neglected by the State Government for the last 12 years.
Going back to the history of the road, the meeting noted that it was opened during the 1960s, and construction/widening of the said road started in the 1970s under the BRTF.
It was finally handed over to the PWD in 2003 after completion and in the last 12 years that it has been under the State Government, there have been frequent landslides, numerous pot holes/cracks, necessitating the cancellation of all passenger service vehicles from 2005 on the 60 km stretch.
The suspension of vehicular movement has severely affected the economic pursuit of the people along the road.
Education of young students too has been adversely affected, said a statement issued by the Kuki Chiefs' Association.
The Kuki Chiefs' Association, Chandel and KSO of Tengnoupal and Machi sub-divisions were handed the responsibility of approaching the Govt for immediate repairing, opening of the recent landslide near Molnoi and to hand over the construction and maintenance of the said road to BRTF for expansion to a 2 lane road, according to the statement.
The KCA, KSO and TSA will give full cooperation to any kind of agitation launched by the two organizations in case their appeal is neglected by the Govt.
