Imphal, November 18 2015:
Innovative Youth Society (IYS), an organization which claims to be the pioneer in introducing indigenous food court in the Manipur Sangai Festival is now set to surrender the acknowledgments, citations and honour conferred on them by the State Government for their efforts.
Addressing media persons today at the office of IYS located at Konjeng Hazarika Leikai Imphal, Deputy Managing Director of IYS, K Mahesh stated that the organizing committee of the Sangai Festival has humiliated the organisation by failing to recognize them even after they made various contributions in the field of introducing indigenous food courts to tourists in the said festival.
He further said that in the process of stall allocation of the Sangai Festival, poor sections of the society who are actually producing indigenous food products are neglected by introducing 'online form submissions' .
He alleged that such online form submission process is viable only for people who have access to internet connection and majority of the people are neglected .
Further he said that in the previous edition of the festival, the cost of one stall was Rs 6,500 but now the cost of a stall is Rs 10,000.Such a hike in price has not only sidelined small time business entrepreneurs but has also created a gap between the rich and the poor.
The new procedure and systems introduced by the Industries Department should be checked well by the organizing committee as there are flaws in many parts in the management of stall operators.
K Mahesh claimed that in the previous edition of the Sangai Festival, the number of food stalls was approximately 170 but in this edition the number has been reduced to 38 .
