Imphal, August 06 2020:
The United Porompat Baruni Road Organisation (UPBRO) has appealed to the State Government not to relax the lockdown completely so as to save Manipur from entering stage-3 (community transmission) of
COVID-19 .
A press release issued by UPBRO said that the number of COVID-19 cases might have increased tremendously had the State Government not imposed total lockdown from July 23 .
Many expressed their opinions that imposing lockdown is not the only option to check the spread of this highly contagious disease, the organisation said and maintained that relaxing lockdown at this point of time is not advisable, considering that the State has already entered the local transmission stage.
As a portion of the population not only disregard the preventive measures of this pandemic but loiter in streets and gather over card games and liquor, thereby increasing the risks of COVID-19 spread, it is high time the State Government imposes stricter measures, UPBRO asserted.
Opining that barricading entry points of localities and spraying disinfectants cannot stop novel coronavirus transmission, UPBRO appealed all to follow COVID safety guidelines laid down by the Government and experts.
Relaxing lockdown at this crucial time will only increase COVID-19 related deaths in the State, considering that the novel virus is fatal to those with a weaker immune system, children and elders, it said and appealed to the State Government not to relax lockdown completely.
The organisation also asked the State Government to make foods and other essentials such as medicines available in the State during the lockdown period.
