COVID-19 death toll reaches 8

The COVID-19 death toll in the State has reached eight and the latest victim is a 15 year old boy from Phubala, Bishnupur district.
The boy who was said to be suffering from kidney problems was admitted to RIMS casualty ward yesterday.
But both the boy and his father were found to be COVID-19 positive.
He expired early this morning.
The boy had been suffering from kidney problems and he was undergoing treatment at RIMS before he was taken home on June 27 in the wake of the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases across the State.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 124 persons including 9 CAPF personnel were tested COVID-19 positive during the last 24 hours at RIMS, JNIMS, Imphal West RAT, District Hospital Kakching, Babina Diagnostic Centre, District Hospital Churachandpur and Shija Hospital.
It is said that 94 of them have no history of travelling outside the State.
Of 124 people tested positive during the last 24 hours (some of which have been reported by TSE a day earlier), 38 belong to Imphal West, 35 to Thoubal, six to Kakching, seven to Churachandpur, 10 to Imphal East, four to Kamjong, three to Bishnupur and 11 to Kangpokpi.
Except for three from Kakching, 11 from Kangpokpi, four from Kamjong, two from Churachandpur and one Bishnupur, the rest have no history of travelling outside the State.
In the meantime, 43 people have recovered from COVID-19 and they have been discharged from RIMS (7), CCC Meitram (23), CCC Thoubal (5), CCC Tamenglong (6) and CCC Ukhrul (1) during the last 24 hours.
On the other hand, 148 samples were found positive out of 874 samples tested today for COVID-19 at JNIMS today but the details could not be ascertained till the time of filing this report.
Health Department sources informed that 22 BSF personnel posted at Koirengei were confirmed to be COVID-19 positive today.
Three staff deputed at the isolation ward of Thoubal district hospital were also found positive after COVID-19 test at JNIMS.
Moreover, 32 residents of Thoubal district have been found infected by the virus.
Three persons were also found positive after rapid antigen test at Thoubal and nine others at Lilong.
Eight people from Kakching and 12 others from Tamenglong were also found COVID-19 positive at RIMS.
As on Thursday, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the State is 3217 (general public 2681, Central security forces 536), according to the press release.
The total number of active cases is 1304 (general public 851, central security forces 453) and recovered cases have reached 1905 (general public 1822, Central security forces 83).Following detection of positive cases, several areas have been sealed off and declared as containment zones.
The containment zones include areas of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai and Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai in Imphal West, Khoirom, Selungpham and Wangbal in Thoubal district and Kwakta Khunou in Bishnupur district.
Areas in Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai were sealed after four residents tested positive while areas of Thangmeiband Hiruhanba Leikai were sealed off after seven residents tested positive.
Areas of Khoirom, Wangkhem AC and Selungpham, Heirok AC in Thoubal district were sealed off after five residents tested positive.
Areas of Wangbal were sealed off after one resident tested positive.
On the other hand, areas of Kwakta Khunou Ward No 2 in Bishnupur district were sealed off after one inmate under quarantine at Moirang College tested positive.
