Imphal, August 06 2020:
Even though Opposition Congress and BJP which is leading the coalition Government have issued whips in connection with the one-day Assembly session scheduled on August 10, it is not yet clear whether the ruling coalition would issue a common whip for its constituent parties or not.
Notably, with the Congress moving three motions of no confidence, the party's chief whip Govindas Konthoujam has already issued a whip directing all Congress MLAs to remain inside the Assembly hall until the session is over and also to vote in favour of the decision taken by the CLP leader in case the no confidence motions are discussed in the House.
Likewise, BJP's chief whip and Works Minister Th Biswajit has issued a whip instructing all its MLAs to be present in the House until the session is over and vote in favour of the Government if there is any voting on the no confidence motions moved by Congress party.
As for NPP and NPF which have four MLAs each, there is no need for issuing any whip because the party would go in line with the decisions taken by their MLAs, sources said.
Moreover, there is no need for the lone Independent MLA as well as Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Trinamool Congress which have one MLA each.
However, the BJP-led coalition is still unable to take a decision on whether it should issue a common whip for all the coalition partners in case any of the no confidence motions moved by Congress is discussed in the House.
On being enquired if any common whip would be issued in connection with the one-day Assembly session, the coalition Government's chief whip MLA P Saratchandra informed that no decision has been adopted as yet on the matter.
Notably, the coalition Government comprises of BJP, NPP, NPF, LJP, Trinamool Congress and Independent.
