Cong constitutes poll committee

Imphal, April 17 2016:
With a view to the next Manipur Legislative Assembly election which is due in 2017, the State's Congress party has constituted a 19-member election committee.
Meanwhile, MLA N Biren has been appointed the party's spokesman.
Due orders regarding re-organisation of the party have been issued by MPCC permanent secretary S Koireng after obtaining approval of AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
Members of the newly constituted election committee include MPCC president TN Haokip, Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, the three MPs and some Ministers.
Apart from appointing six vice-presidents, MLA K Ranjit has been given the charge of treasurer.
The six vice-presidents are MLA N Biren (organisation, political affairs and media), MLA N Loken (frontal organisations, cells, election and disciplinary affairs), MLA Y Surchandra (general administration, planning and development), MLA T Mangibabu (political conference, municipalities), MLA E Dwijamani (Panchayati Raj, Zilla Parishad and Nagar Panchayats) and DD Thaisii (District Councils and social justice).
Moreover, 11 new general secretaries and 10 secretaries have been appointed for MPCC.
14 people including Chief Minister O Ibobi have been inducted anew into the MPCC executive.
Further, a disciplinary action committee headed by MLA N Biren as chairman has also been constituted.
