Thoubal, April 17 2016:
Staff and students of Eklavya Model Residential School, Chikim Veng Moreh in Chandel district are gripped with fear after some buildings of the school developed cracks due to the earthquake that struck the State on April 13 last.
Apart from the school building, boys' and girls' hostels had also developed cracks.
Speaking to reporters, school Principal Henkholun Touthang said that these buildings are likely to collapse if another earthquake of equal magnitude strikes again.
Drawing attention of the authority concerned to the matter, the Principal urged the State Government to send an expert team to assess the condition of the school at the earliest.
Students are still staying in the hostel although they are reluctant to do so, he said.
It may be mentioned that the residential school, which has 140 students, was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam in 2014 .
